How Fighters Rescued A Man Who Was Trapped In 80-Foot Well In Lagos

A 56-year-old man was successfully rescued over the weekend from an 80-foot-deep well in the Ikotun area of Lagos.

Thanks to the swift intervention of personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Ejigbo Station.

The incident occurred at No. 12 Aiyeola Street, off Governor Road, Molad Bus Stop, where the man, a maintenance worker, became trapped while carrying out duties inside the well, which is located behind an eight-room bungalow on a 648-square-metre property.

Upon receiving an emergency alert, the fire crew from Ejigbo Station was immediately dispatched to the location. The man, whose name has not been disclosed, was extricated alive to the relief of anxious residents and family members gathered at the scene.

Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye, commended the professionalism and efficiency of the response team. She indicated that early findings point to a likely lapse in safety measures.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the man may have entered the well without adhering to required safety procedures,” Adeseye stated. “We strongly advise the public to notify appropriate agencies before engaging in tasks that pose significant risk.”

She also emphasized that early notification allows the fire service to implement safety measures and deploy support personnel, thereby reducing the risk of accidents and enhancing the chances of survival during emergencies.
