Fayose disclosed this in a post on his verified Twitter page, on Wednesday night. According to him, the party plans to use incidences of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Offices burnt in Imo, Anambra, and Plateau States, as an excuse to move the elections.
The former Governor tweeted: “Leadership of APC now in a crucial meeting.
“They are considering postponement of Saturday’s elections, till 2nd week of March, using burning of INEC Offices, in Anambra, Abia, and Plateau States, as well as insecurity in some States, as reasons.”
Fayose, had earlier alleged plans to jam telecommunication networks across the country, during Saturday’s elections.
He tweeted: “I am aware of plot by the FG to jam telecoms networks from 5am on Saturday till 5pm on Sunday, thus making it impossible for use of internet and phone calls during the elections. Equipment imported from Israel for this sinister plot was tested last week Thursday and Friday.”
Recall, that the Headquarters of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, in Awka, the Anambra State capital, on Tuesday, was caught in flames. The election umpire confirmed that a total of 4,695 card readers were destroyed in the fire that gutted the containers, where they were kept at the Anambra State INEC Office.
Meanwhile, a team of heavily armed Policemen, on Thursday morning, blocked the entrance to the Rivers State Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Port Harcourt.
The Policemen had apart from cordoning off the INEC Office, mounted a roadblock on the lane close to the Commission. The early morning blockade, is connected with the planned protest of members of the Rotimi Amaechi-led All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, over the exclusion of their Candidates from the general elections, by court pronouncements.
Led by the APC’s southeast senatorial district’s candidate, Oji Ngofa, the protesters carried several placard went on chorusing, “No APC, no elections in Rivers State.”
On his part, Edwin Enabor, the commission’s head of voter education and publicity, speaking to the protesters, said that Obo Effanga, the Resident Electoral Commission (REC) in the state, was yet to report to the office.
However, Ngofa and his protesting team maintained that they would remain in the spot until their protest letter personally gets to Effanga and then to INEC’s national boss, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
