OAU ASUU Reacts To The Suspension Of Professor Who Allegedly Demanded S*x From Student

Following the scandal involving Prof. Richard Akindele of the Obafemi Awolowo University, ASUU has reacted.

The Obafemi Awolowo University Branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commended the university administration for the step taken towards ensuring sanity in the system by suspending a professor accused of demanding s*x from a student, according to a report by The Independent.
 
The statement is coming after OAU Vice Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede on Thursday, 19th April, 2018, announced the suspension of Prof. Richard Akindele, of the Department of Management and Accounting for allegedly demanding to have s*x with a student five times before passing her.
 
Adeola Egbedokun, Chairperson of ASUU OAU said that the union is satisfied with the university's stance.
 
The statement read: “The union expresses satisfaction on the prompt action taken by the administration on the recommendation of the Investigative Panel set up to look into the events surrounding the recorded phone conversation between Professor Akindele and Miss Monica Osetobe OSAGIE where the former was demanding for sex to alter the latter’s grade.
“ASUU OAU reiterates its commitment to defending the integrity of the code of conduct of the University, and to upholding its ethical standards. ASUU OAU, therefore, encourages the Vice Chancellor and his team not to relent in their efforts to get to the root of the matter and ensure that justice is done and is seen to have been done in the matter.
“The union also admonishes its members to always adhere strictly to the code of conduct guiding their appointment in the University as they carry out their lawful activities.”
