Ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra state
which is scheduled to hold on November 18, the Nnamdi Kanu-led
Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has warned voters in the state not
to participate.
Recall that few months ago, IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, had said
there would be no election in Anambra unless the federal government
calls for a referendum, adding that the south-east would also not
participate in 2019 general election.
“There will be no senator, there will be no house of reps, there
will be no house of assembly and there will be no councillorship
elections in Biafra land if they (federal government) fail to call for a
referendum,” he had said.
Kanu’s whereabouts are now unknown. His disappearance followed a
clash between IPOB members and soldiers close to his family home in Abia
state, but in a video clip that has gone viral, an IPOB member could be
heard saying that anybody who comes out to vote “will die” as they
engage in mass rally.
He threatened that if the federal government fails to produce Kanu,
there would be no peace. “Today, the 10th day of November, we are here
to tell the people we are not afraid of the zoo,” the individual in the
video clip said.
“We are not terrorists, IPOB is not terrorist, we are the
Indigenous People of Biafra. As you can see, there will be no election.
We are not going to vote. Nothing concerns us with election.
“We are not going to participate. As you can see, we are
formidable. We want the federal government to produce Nnamdi Kanu with
immediate effect or there will be no peace. They should release
Biafrans. Come vote and die. If you vote, you will die.”
