A
young and intelligent Nigerian student has been praised and honoured by
the Governor of Enugu state for her outstanding performance in the 2017
West African Examinations Council Examination.

A 16-year-old student of Dowen College, Lagos, Miss Nnenna Eneh,
who scored A1 in all the nine subjects she sat for in the 2017 West
African Examinations Council (WAEC) examination has been honoured by
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State on Wednesday at the hallowed
chambers of the State Executive Council (EXCO).
The Enugu State Government had also honoured another indigene of
the state Miss Cynthia Chinecherem Ali, who emerged as the best
graduating student of Shalom Academy Nsukka in 2017, who had the same
result in recognition of her outstanding academic performance.
Addressing journalists after the meeting with members of the State
Executive Council, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uchenna Eze,
who was accompanied by his counterpart in the Ministry of Information,
Mr. Ogbuagu Anikwe and the student’s father, Mr. Fidelis Eneh, said that
Gov. Ugwuanyi expressed delight at the brilliant performance of Miss
Eneh, adding that the state government was thrilled by the number of its
indigenes that are “doing wonderfully well” in academics.
The commissioner disclosed that the state government honoured her
with a cash gift and certificate of recognition as an ambassador of
Enugu State, stating that the gesture will motivate her further to do
better in her future endeavours, as well as spur other young ones to
work harder.
“With this kind of brilliant performance, we believe that the
sky will be her limit and we are praying that other young ones will
emulate her, as hard work is the only road to this kind of achievement.
The EXCO approved a cash award and there will be a certificate of honour
bearing His Excellency’s seal”, Prof. Eze said.
Responding, Miss Eneh, who was represented by her father, said she
was “extremely delighted with the honour by His Excellency and the
EXCO”, and thanked the governor for his commitment towards qualitative
and affordable education in the state.
Mr. Eneh, regretted the absence of his daughter at the event,
explaining that she would have loved to be present to personally receive
the award but had travelled out of the country to further her
education.
“Your Excellency, you invited me her in view of my daughter’s
performance. I hope she would have been here by herself. That would have
made her day. A few minutes ago I was reading something somebody was
commenting on His Excellency’s commitment to education.
“Incidentally, if this is the only thing the girl will be
associated with, His Excellency’s directive here has made her vision a
reality and I sincerely thank the governor on behalf of the young girl
for this gesture”, the student’s father said.
