Emerging report making rounds, reveals that the Presidency has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to immediately reopen all allegations of corruption against the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Umar Danladi.
The order came against the backdrop of the manner in which he exonerated and cleared the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, of all the 18-count charges leveled against him by the Federal Government, bordering on false declaration of assets.
Sources at the anti-graft agency in Abuja, said the Commission had started screening all outstanding petitions against the CCT Chairman.
“I can confirm to you that the EFCC is set to reopen the probe of the CCT Chairman. We are studying the petitions, and he will be invited anytime from now”, a high ranking source in the EFCC said.
Recall, that a group had in 2015, demanded for an immediate probe of an alleged N10, 618,837,435 bribery scandal against the CCT boss.
Recall also, that Umar was investigated by the anti-graft agency, over an allegation that he demanded N10 million bribe from a retired Customs Officer, Rasheed Owolabi, who was said to have had issues with the CCT.
Gambo’s arrest and subsequent arraignment, followed a petition that he received a bribe of N1.8 million, on behalf of the Tribunal Chairman, ostensibly to quash a case before the CCT.
Investigations showed that the EFCC did invite Umar on March 18, 2013, over an allegation of illegally demanding the sum of N10 million, from one Taiwo Rasheed, a Retired Comptroller of Customs, who was being prosecuted by the CCT at that time.
The Retired Customs Officer, had discreetly reported Umar to the Police, who had advised him to play along by paying part of the bribe money. Rasheed subsequently paid the sum of N1.8 million into account of the Personal Assistant of the CCT Chairman.
