In what will come across as a really shocking development, a man has died along with his three sons in a single day.
The dead bodies being moved to a mortuary
Cleopas Jokomela, a Zimbabwean man from the Budiriro district of
Harare has died. The man died on Monday along with his three sons in a
well as they tried to drain water using a water pump.
According to H Metro, Cleopas Jokomela, 63, got into a 20-metre
deep well and placed a water pump to drain water before drowning.
His three sons Tom Jokomela, 34, Cleopas Jokomela (Jnr), 31, and
Mccllugh Jokomela, 30 drowned as they tried to rescue their father.
National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi confirmed the mishap saying investigations were in progress.
“Police are investigating an unfortunate incident that happened
in Budiriro where a father and his three sons drowned while draining
water from their well using a water pump,” said Chief Supt Nyathi.
“Investigations are being carried out and police are appealing
to organisations and individuals to engage experts after a thorough
analysis to drain water in any area to avoid such mishaps,” he said.
The well has been sealed up
Narrating to H-Metro how the four drowned, Grace Jokomela, the
mother to the three sons believed that smoke from the pump could have
suffocated the deceased.
“I have been robbed of bread winners, I am only left with one daughter and her baby; it is so painful,” said Grace.
“We noticed that smoke from the water pump had engulfed the
well and the sons drowned one by one in efforts to rescue their father.
Residents who used to fetch water from this well have been affected as
well,” she added.
Police sub aqua unit retrieved the bodies and they were taken to Harare Central Hospital mortuary.
