12-year old Victoria Oyindamola Oluwadare, an Ibadan-based little girl from an average Nigerian family has been described as a very bubbly and brilliant kid with excellent academic records to show for it.
The fresh Junior Secondary School graduate's display of rare leadership qualities and high level of maturity at such a tender age made her the golden child in the family of 5 with massive future expectations from her parents.
Unfortunately, Victoria's shine got covered by a dark cloud in the month of May, 2016 when she suddenly became very sick and was rushed to the University College Hospital, UCH in Ibadan, Oyo State where she was diagnosed of a life-threatening heart disease named
Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) coupled with a severe pulmonary hypertension.
Due to the severity of the heart defect and inadequate medical facilities to undertake such a critical surgical operation in Nigeria, Victoria's parents have been referred to an Indian hospital - Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals. Preliminary inquiries revealed the medical treatment in the Asian country will cost a sum of $6,500 but travelling cost and other logistics involved in medical tourism upped the bill by an extra $3,000 to make
$9,500 on the whole which her family can't afford.
This has necessitated an online appeal to the general public to come to the aid of the family and save Victoria's life.
A Tori News correspondent who independently verified the veracity of Victoria's medical condition with documents from her health file as earlier posted on this platform reached out to her distraught mother, Funke Oluwadare, a staff of Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria, Jericho - Ibadan. The tearful woman used that juncture to appeal again to good Samaritans to help salvage her daughter's life.
She said amidst tears and gnashing of teeth
"I am appealing to Nigerians to assist in saving my daughter's life. She keeps getting sicker daily. It is traumatic to watch her go through this helplessly''.
"I have gone against all odds to save money but all to no avail"
"My husband and I are just average civil servants living from hand to mouth due to the high costs of stabilizing our daughter's ill-health pending on when she gets proper treatment''
''I feel torn apart watching my daughter in such sickly state as she constantly vomits and complains of severe body weakness, irritation and other sorts of unimaginable discomfort'' she reiterated.
When asked about the state of the financial contributions thus far, she averred that some Nigerians have been forthcoming but the family is lagging far behind in meeting the current target sum of $9,500 which is N2, 995,000 approximately.
