Reasons why MFM is so committed to music and sports- Dr D.K Olukoya

The General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry, MFM, Pastor Daniel Olukoya, has restated the church’s commitment to promoting quality music, noting that music and sports are tools of empowerment.

Pastor Olukoya said this at the opening of the Mountain Top Conservatory of Music and launching of Mountain Top Conservatory Choir and Philharmonic Orchestra at the church’s head-quarters, Onike, Lagos.

According to him, “investment in quality music and sports are powerful tools to engage youths meaningfully in any part of the world.

“We are committed to developing quality music in Nigeria and over 5,000 youths, including destitute, orphans and vulnerable youths, are under our various scholarship and empowerment programme including musical training across the world.”

He lamented that music, an ancient and socially relevant art, had been abandoned for mediocre practitioners and the ungodly.

Also speaking, Director of the 170-man strong Mountain Top Conservatory Choir and Philharmonic Orchestra, Mrs. Oyinkansola Akinselure, called on music bodies, practitioners and stakeholders to go back to the drawing board and chart a new course for music education in Nigeria.

You Have Failed as Minister of Petroleum, Resign Now - Fayose Tells Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has been advised to resign due to his failure to tackle the lingering fuel crisis affecting Nigerians all over the country.
Governor Ayodele Fayose

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari over his failure to end the lingering fuel crisis in the country. This comes as Nigerians have been forced to buy fuel as high as N300per litre.

Fayose called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign as he has failed his duty as Petroleum Minister.

Fayose accused Buhari of showing a “nonchalant attitude” towards the fuel situation which had affected economic activities across the country in the last three weeks.

Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose said it was unfortunate that the fuel scarcity was biting harder under the watch of the president as the Minister of Petroleum.

“Already, fuel is being sold officially at between N180 and N200 at petrol stations across the country,” said Mr. Fayose.

“It is sad that this Buhari’s APC government had to choose this Christmas and New Year period to ground Nigeria with the fuel scarcity that it deliberately orchestrated.

“It is obvious that the president has failed in all ramifications and he needs to do Nigerians a favour by relinquishing the portfolio of minister of petroleum.

“Like I said a few days ago, what the federal government is doing is to create scarcity so that Nigerians will be willing to buy at any price, provided the product is made available.

“It was to achieve this planned increment of petrol pump price that they restricted supply of petrol to NNPC alone.”

The governor noted that the only option to rescue Nigeria now “from being brought down completely is to vote out Buhari and his APC in 2019.”

Fuel Scarcity: Nigerians Cry Out for Help as Petrol Pump Price Hits N250 Per Litre

Nigerians in the different parts of the country have cried out for help as the price of petrol increases daily with many buying as high as N300 per litre.

Motorists queue for fuel in Nigeria (File photo)

The supply and price of petrol in Anambra have worsened as customers now pay between N250 and N300 per litre in the state.

Most filling stations in Awka and its environs had the product but refused to dispense.

However, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) monitoring and enforcing the situation, compelled marketers to sell the product at the government regulated price of N145 per litre

The team, which came from Enugu Office, also sealed 12 filling stations, including an NNPC mega station for hoarding the product.

The team, led by Mr Daniel Atama, however, met stiff resistance at Stanel Service Station which set its meter at N145 but was not dispensing, in spite of the long queues of motorists who had waited for over 24 hours.

The DPR efforts to get the owners of the station to sell proved abortive as the manager said he would only sell at whenever he wished and would not take orders from DPR.

Atama subsequently placed a seal order on the station for hoarding the products but an official of the station pulled the seal off immediately and threw it away right before the DPR team.

The DPR agents, however, left the station to avoid a brewing crisis.

But reacting to the development, Mr Chris Orage, General Manager of the station said he did not remove the seal placed by the DPR.

Orage said the station had limited products and was trying to manage the queue.

He denied defying the DPR orders because the station enjoyed support from some highly placed people in Anambra government.

At an NNPC mega station, the entrance was closed while motorists waited patiently for them to start dispensing.

The DPR, however, entered the station and demanded that the underground tank be dipped to check if the product was available.

The DPR sealed the station when the attendants refused to obey the instruction after which the manager was called on phone and directed that the officials be allowed to check if the product was available.

However, it was discovered that about N12,000 litres of petrol was available and DPR also ordered instant dispensing of the product.

One of the motorists at the mega station, Mr innocent Uzor, said they were patiently waiting because the station usually sold at night.

“We are here because we know they have fuel and they sell at N145, they usually sell at night.

“We thank the DPR for this enforcement, these marketers just make us suffer, may be because it is Christmas,” he said.

Customers at ARCON filling Station, Unizik junction, NIPCO Amawbia and other stations were jubilant as the marketers were made to revert prices from between N200 and N220 to the normal price of N145 per litre.

Atama warned that the exercise would be a continuous one and that unscrupulous marketers should stop fleecing the public as there was no increase in the cost of petrol.

But the Managing Director of ARCON, whose outfit was also sealed for allegedly reverting to N200 after the DPR officials left, said it was impossible for them to sell at N145 because the landing cost was much more than that.

The MD, who did not disclose his name, said he would rather have his station sealed than sell at a loss.

You Have Failed Nigerians - Aisha Blast Buhari Over Fuel scarcity, Failed Economy, #EndSARS

As a result of the hardship millions of Nigerians are going through because of fuel scarcity, and the silence of the presidency has made Aisha Yesufu to declare that President Buhari has failed.
Aisha Yesufu

Co-convener of Bring Back Our Girls Group, Aisha Yesufu, has blasted President Muhammadu Buhari over his poor performance as a president.

Aisha who made reference to Buhari’s tweet in 2015 blaming former President Goodluck Jonathan for fuel crisis called him a hypocrite.

“Dear President Muhammadu Buhari @MBuhari your tweet below says it all about your hypocritical stand.

“Your tears, words, tweets were never about Nigeria but about your need to come & enjoy the perks of power.

“You have failed as the Minister of Petroleum & more so as the President," she tweeted

The BBOG co-convener said the president has failed as a minister of petroleum for turning deaf ear to the lingering fuel crisis situation officially.

According to her, President Buhari is swayed by power therefore ‘lacking in wisdom, integrity and values despite his age.’

“What type of President are you? You have not had the decency to address the Nation on the crippling effect of the fuel scarcity that many are suffering. You may have Kano people in your pocket you sure dont have the rest of us there.

“At your age one would have expected you have seen it all and not be swayed by the temporary insanity of power but alas age does not mean wisdom, integrity, values and character.

“So what has happened now that is different from 2nd March 2015 when you made that tweet during fuel scarcity? That you became President? What a shame! Power that is transient? Somebody was there before you and somebody would be there after you. What’s the big deal

“People are suffering and all that concerns you is the fawning you get and revel in the access to Presidential jets and pictures of you in overcoat with your incompetent sycophants toeing the line

“I don’t blame you i blame the timid, docile and irresponsible citizens of Nigeria that would fight themselves on the queues at the filling station instead of coming to Aso villa to fight you. Shamefully I am one of the citizenry. Be warned one day we would no longer take it!

“Your impunity and arrogance of treating the people of Nigeria with disdain would definitely come back and haunt you when you see yourself alone without the sycophants

“Lee Kuan Yew is your mate. Nelson Mandela is your mate. They spent their years as leaders thinking about the next generation and building legacy. You are spending your time thinking about the next election while enjoying bagpipes and ceremonial welcome. What a waste!

“Nigerians cried over killings and molestation by @PoliceNG you turned deaf ears. Fuel scarcity you equally have turned deaf ears. We are counting! We would remember! Its a debt we would not forget. Our day to turn deaf ears too would come God willing!

“Mr President the first thing you should do about this fuel scarcity is to fire yourself as Minister of Petroleum and get a competent hand to be one, that’s if you would recognise competence even if it hits you in the face!," she added.

Benin Republic Withdraws Globacom's Operating Licence

The commercial activities of Global Communications firm is about to be grounded in neighbouring Benin after its operating license was seized.

Benin Republic’s telecommunications regulator has withdrawn the operating licence of Nigerian mobile telecoms company, Globacom’s local unit in a dispute over new terms, according to a document seen by Reuters.

The regulator, ARCEP-Benin, said it took the decision after negotiations with Glo Mobile Benin to renew its licence broke down earlier this month after the company refused new conditions imposed by the government.

Officials with the parent company, which is owned by Nigerian billionaire, Mike Adenuga, were not immediately available for comment.

The ARCEP document did not say what the government’s new conditions were, but a source close to the regulator, who asked not to be named, said they included an increase in the cost of the licence.

Glo Mobile Benin said it had over 1.6 million subscribers in 2015, according to the most recent statistics available on ARCEP’s website.

Globacom also operates mobile networks in Nigeria and Ghana.
